WOW! That is just the information I was looking for in a complete fashion. With evolution, we drop traits (like a tail) or develop traits because of adaptation. Sometimes it is because we no longer need it, and others is because we need something to survive better. If chickens evolved to create a frizzle modifier gene, then was there something wrong or subpar with the frizzle. I know chickens who have frizzled feathers (at least I read) cannot seem to stay as warm as chickens with smooth feathers. Now, I live in HOT Texas, so this would not be irresponsible for me to have a frizzle. I just do not want to perpetuate a breed with a genetic weakness. I do not want to be a breeder. I just want to be responsible. Are there any other health issues that are linked to the frizzle gene? I think they are so adorable. I really do want some bantam polish frizzles, or bantam silkie frizzles (sizzles). Does anyone know?
The only thing I don't like about my sizzle rooster (and I see your roo has them as well) is the wing feathers are pointy and God forbid he flap them in your face if being handled lol.
