Polish personalities?

I have a White Crested black that is neurotic--everything scares him, so I try to make a little noise when his back is to me so it doesn't scare the bejeebers out of him. He'll jump straight into the air with a squawk and zoom off otherwise!

I have a pair of Buff Laced...the hen can see pretty good straight ahead, but is totally blind in her perephrial vision. She's kind of flighty, but not too bad if she knows what you're up to. Her mate I just acquired and he's pretty good about being handled, which is good because I've had to treat him for leg mites. He'll lay on his back and kind of take a snooze while I'm slicking down his legs with Vaseline. His vision isn't very limited at the moment since he's moulted, but the new feathers are starting to get in the way.

That's awesome.

It is pretty funny to see him all relaxed. I guess he thinks he has his own personal masseuse. I've been scrubbing his legs under the faucet to loosen up the dead skin, then laying him on his back to do an inspection before I grease him up. I've also had to treat his ears, and he's pretty easy to work with compared to other birds I have.

We have 1 cockeral and 3 pullets of the polish variety. They were VERY docile and at the botomofthe pecking order until we culled 11 cockerals and sold 3 buttercup pullets. Now there has been a giant change.

Elvis, the cockeral, just started crowing and he loves to hang out with the big white wyandotte pullets. He 'sings' for them. LOL

One of the white crested black pullets comes out after me the minute I walk in the barn - like a yipping little tea cup chihauhau or something! She is insane and tries to bite me then runs under the nestboxes and roosts. I have never seen such neurotic behavior. It is almost insanely funny. The sad part is if she comes after my 20 month old son she will have written her own death warrant.

I have an exhibition pair of WC Blacks. They are lunatics. The hen is the fiestiest thing!! She tries to attack the dogs through the wire of her pen.

But she's fairly easy for me to handle and, I have to say, I like her little fiery temperament! The rooster is pretty stand-off-ish. For awhile he was plucking the hen's crest feathers out. I started threatening to call him chicken nugget...I think he got the picture!

And I'm a vegetarian, so that tells you how mad I was. But he's been a good boy here lately, and I hope he keeps it up. He's too darn pretty, I don't want to get rid of him! I'm hoping for some nice babies in the spring.
