A few of my 10 week old polish have these things growing from their scalp that looks kinda like toothpicks. Is this what I think it is?
One more thing, one of them has a bright red scalp. It doesn't look like there's any broken skin or bugs, but I'm concerned.

When their pin feathers come in they are skinny toothpick looking and covered with a white flaky coating. The reddness on the scalp has been normal with mine also the skin might take on a yellowish tinge. They almost appear to be losing feathers on their heads as it will look sparse for a while as the new feathers come in through the older ones. Good chance they may be males also.

I have one that was born around the same time as yours. I don't know if you remember that. Anywho..they're pin feathers. Mine looks like it grew a white porccupine on top of its head

I have never had one with a red scalp. I just wonder if it isn't from the new feathers, just sore?

Verthandi, thanks for putting me at ease. They are nasty looking things, and my scalp would be red too! Yes, they have some sparse scalps right now.
Pinenot, of course I remember!!!!! I caught one of mine crowing this morning, and this is the one that we are discussing here. Looks like out of 7 Polish I have 3 males so far. The silkies, I think I have one male. I hope they behave, I'd like to keep them all.
How are yours doing, the ones that were born mid December?

My HennyPenny is doing good. She was the only Polish I hatched at that time. I hatched 2 Partridge Silkies with her. She is so cute. She just looks so funny right now because she is molting too.
