Our darling 10 week old Polish roo has had a bald spot on his head since he was 4 weeks old. I never see any chickens pecking at his head, but it looks awful.

It's brown (blood?) and the feathers are just shafts filled with blood. The bald part looks bumpy and dry. He seems fine, but it just looks awful.

He is the only Polish (the MMH "mystery chick") with 10 RIR hens. They are his size, with about 4 of them larger than all the chickens we have.

Anyone had this problem? What to do?

It started out smaller, about the size of a dime, but now its about the size of a quarter. Well, he's bigger, too, so maybe it's just grown in proportion to his overall growth, idk.

Any advice, etc. you can provide is sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

I avoid keeping crested and non crested together. I had two polish and they both ended up dejected and eventually killed by predators because they did not range well.

My guess is the girls are pecking on his head and he can't see it coming.

Well, since I'm not with them all the time, you could be 100%on target.

But I can't separate them - I have 1 coop and all must live there together.

Any suggestions?
