My WC Black Polish hen that was Ch. AOCCL at the APA National just went Reserve Bantam in Show at the Chehalis Fair. Rob's call duck was Ch. Waterfowl too. A nice day!

I got into an interesting discussion with the judge at the show today that caused me to research some facts about bantam Polish varieties:
ABA varieties are Self Blue- bd and nb
Buff-laced- bd and nb
Golden- bd and nb
Silver-bd and nb
White- bd and nb
WC Black- bd and nb
WC Blue- bd and nb
WC Cuckoo-nb (The only variety to have mottled instead of slate legs)
WC Chocolate -nb
WC Khaki- nb
The APA recognizes only Golden (bd and nb) Silver (bd and nb) and WC Black and WC Blue in non-bearded.
Just think, a judge officiating at a show that is both APA and ABA- as most are- must keep this in mind. He can put a buff-laced bird up for Ch. AOCCL by ABA rules, but must pick another variety for APA awards. This is CRAZY! My whites and buff-laced have won at very high levels many times and I would consider them common Polish varieties. I hope the ABA and APA varieties will eventually be reconciled. It is considerably easier to gain acceptance through the ABA, which is why the discrepancy exists. No wonder a lot of judges never look beyond the White Crested Blacks for their BB bird- then they don't have to remember all this stuff!
( I am only talking about bantams here- not standards.)

I have 2 chicks that are around 4 weeks old. One is just a golden roo, and I think maybe a buff, but not sure. The other is a white crested blue frizzle hen, and perhaps a bantam?

But her hat is getting pecked by the other chicks. Does anyone know how to prevent it? Idk if it is anywhere else in this thread, I just didn't have time to look.
