Oh, I'm glad you posted this! I just noticed one of mine has horns too??? I've never see a comb with horns???? I think that one is a boy.

Yesss, they're eeeeevillllll

Polish have a comb called a V comb. It's what the horns are. Crevecoeurs, Houdans, Brabanters, Spitzhauben, Sultans, and La Fleche carry the same trait

Not all Polish roosters are evil.

I've never met an evil one of the handful I've known, but none of them were hatchery based.

I know people hate so called "hatchery bashing" but truth is truth - Hatcheries do not focus on temperament as a part of their breeding program.

My Polish get fed nothing but medicated starter until they are about 10-12 weeks old and we have never had an issue with them, other than the Tolbunts and that is a different reason. But, in the end, it is all up to what you feel is right.

What about the tolbunts?

The inbreeding and poor genetics cause them to just up and die at any given age, with no symptoms of illness or mutations.

Want to hear a funny story about my Polish chicken? I just started raising chickens in March and bought several chicks from a variety of places. I am however very impatient, and decided that I couldn't wait until they were five or six months old for eggs, (provided they were even hens, which I did not know at the time.) I decided to buy some laying hens off of craigslist to satisfy my need for instant gratification. While at one of the farms, I saw a cool Polish chicken that I had to have. I bought him and added him to my collection. A month later, I noted that the roosters, (the ones I could identify because they acutally crowed), were attacking him. Fearing for my poor less dominant rooster, I relocated these meanies to another home. About a month later, I then got some pretty partridge rock hens from another craigslist advertiser, (sense a pattern here?) I was thrilled when soon they began laying pretty white eggs. All was right with the world. Then, one day, I was checking for eggs in the nesting box and saw Roho, my polish rooster sitting in there. Silly rooster, I thought, you can't lay eggs. But something struck me as odd with this situation, especially when more of the young chickens started crowing, and attacking Rooster in much the same way the first 2 had. Then, I had my epiphany. I looked up partridge rock chickens and low and behold, they lay brown eggs. The roosters were attacking Roho just like they did the Americauna hens which were laying. My Polish Roho is a hen!!! No wonder he's so cool. No guy could ever be that awesome.

the golden laced I cannot find any bumps on

When I saw your gold lace, I thought it looked like a girl. Just has that feminine look to me

So, maybe?

It's been developing a lot slower than the others this whole time though. It's crest is sooooo funny. It looks like a perfect Mohawk right now

The reason I got a good look at this one is because he's a sweetie and always on my lap! I always pick them up and pull the crest up so they can see, but this was the first I've seen the V Comb. The grown Polish girl my friend gave me didn't have that, is it just boys?

My buffs are the only ones who have combs. None of my WC or Tolbunts do.

Hmmmm, this is a WCB. Also I've been wanting to ask what color you call the Polish in your avatar? I have one that looks exactly like that.

The standard for the Breed for ANY Polish is that they have a V comb, but the smaller the better. My hens don't have much of a comb at all, if, well, at all - But a couple of my boys do have prominent V (and one, a butterfly type) combs.
