These were just purchased recently and the previous owner probably kept them on wire constantly. There was nothing for them to wear them down on.

Thanks. Me too.

Melinda, did you see the week old pics I posted the other day on the farm page? I will make sure that we post brand new baby pics as soon as they are fluffy!

Hi! I have been looking through this thread and have seen LOTS of great pics. I have a couple of questions I was wondering if you could help me with.
OK, last spring we purchased 7 3 day old chicks sexed as females to raise for eggs. They all turned out really well and are much more pets than "livestock". Our daughter (7) loves them and played with them every day as well as helps with the "chicken chores". Well, the 7 hens are great for us, but some folks have been wanting to buy eggs and we can not keep up with the orders. So we have decided to purchase some more chicks this year. Our daughter has fallen for the Golden Laced Polish and wants one for "her own". The issue I have is that where we got our other chicks, the Golden Laced only come in a straight run. (For her pet, we are not really worried about egg production and there is plenty of space.) There isn't really any way to tell male from female at this age, so I was wondering if our 'Luck of the Draw' turned out to be a roo...what is the temperament? Is caponizing a possibility? Should we look for another seller? Are they hard to find? Any different to grow? Thank you so much for your help and expertise!

My polish roos are very docile. As with any bird it comes down to how much you work with them as they are growing. It sounds like your daughter will probably spend a good amount of time with it, so I wouldn't worry much. The roos also have a wonderful looking crest that she should love.
