My polish hens can be noisy. Hope doesn't really make that much noise unless she's laying an egg....then she is. Iggy is VERY vocal....she clucks a lot and is also super loud when something is bothering her or she's laying an egg. I guess it depends......

I got a GLPC over 10 years ago from a large hatchery. She came to me on a day when the snow was trying to make things miserable. I went down to the post office and picked up more than 80 chicks. A few months later we had to move across the state and I had to disperse a flock over 100 chickens. My little GLPC went to live with my sister. My sister and her DH live in the city of Seattle. They still have my little girl. Of course she is really my now my sisters little chicken. Well the little girl is now over 10 years old and she is still laying an egg a day, and she is still as cute as ever.

operator16 - yes, I find that my polish are very vocal compared to the rest of the flock, including my roos! I started with a pair of 1 yr. old girls and they would chit chat to each other all the live long day! When I'd get up and head to the coop to let them out in the AM, I could hear them talking as soon as I stepped outside, LOL. I only have one left, but she is still a talker.

One of the 2 chicks I got this January has come into her voice in the last couple of weeks and just squaks all the time. And it's a loud noise too. The other one is quiet as a church mouse.

I don't mind the chattering, I think it's a cute part of their personality. Of course, I sing and hum all the time, so I may not be the best judge

Wowee, what wonderful birds. I am new to keeping polish and now that I see all the different types I am more hooked than ever. My very first hatch is in progress - white crested blue parents. Here's some photos - looks like 2 types...light and dark ones. Can anybody tell me what they will feather out to be?

The blacker chicks should end up black, sometimes I will get a dark one that surprises me and ends up blue, but if you look real close they will have some silvery feathers just at the edge of the black, if they are going to be blue. The splash and blue chicks may be hard to tell apart for a couple of weeks, but the splash will look more mottled as they start to get their first baby feathers. All your gray/silver colored ones will be either splash or blue.

Looks like you had a good hatch, how many did you end up with?

Adding to the polish fun!

I ended up with Honey as a freebie in a group of chickens I bought a bit ago. She's 2 y/o, the oldest of the ones I got, and the guy said she was a "show chicken". I have no idea, maybe it was 4H, maybe other shows?

I don't care - I love her

She's a doll! My daughter also loves her, and is always looking for her.

She's also currently the best layer I have LOL - most of mine are too young, but since the day I got her, she's laid an egg a day. Not bad!
