Many times it won't show up till later on. If you are breeding him to a sibling or cousin then you run a very high chance of setting that bad trait in the chicks. It is possible to breed out that undesired trait, but be prepared for a lot of culling after the chicks are grown out to 6 or 8 months old.

I do have paper towels (2) in there, but maybe not enough... I'll fill ALL chambers with paper towels then add more water... i'm now thinking that my last three eggs might have shrink wrapped. i sure hope not...but if the humidity isn't up there....IDK...

OK, here's my pics of the three that hatch, but i think they're all ROOS....! AGREE? DISAGREE??

So, what does every one think.... how bad does the un-fluffiness look?

BTW...thanks everyone for all of your help...I really appreciate it.

Melinda

alright, let's back up and start over......

First off I dont see ANY unfluffed ones in your pics???
I see one in the second pic on the left that looks like it MAY be frizzled, MAYBE...

Yes your humidity will go that high, I run 50% during the main cycle and 65-70% at hatch for all my birds, bantams, peafowl, turkeys waterfowl etc...can be lower, but as mentioned, this works for me and I've done it this way for 27 years now.

But I dont see a problem with the chicks you posted...what I consider unfluffed is when the leftover goo in the eggs actually dries to the chick, it will be a God awful nasty crst to them, yours do not have that.

Yes for higher humidity you have to keep those holes plugged, do that and get all that other mess out of your incubator. The only time you should pull a plug is if you see condensation on the looking glass or if your hydrometer is shown above 70%
If you are using a Hovabator, they have holes in the bottom of the Styrofoam for fresh air to come into. I use 6 of them along with the sportsman cabinet styles. I never pull the plugs unless it's the entire incubator hatching off at once. Hovabators are designed to keep the humidity perfect without a lot of monitoring.
Fill the center ring for all periods of incubation, on the last 3 days fill the next ring as well, this extra surface area is what is going to raise your levels and it works perfect in the Hovabators, in fact I never monitor them any more in those. Used to keep a close eye on it for years, but they were always spot on, so now I dont even bother ...
Now if it's another brand, I cant help you there with the specifics.

But honestly, doesnt look like you have an issue with the chicks, they look fluffed and healthy to me.
Oh, and not sure how you are sex guessing them, but that's all it will be is a guess, time is the only way to sex them, some my have theories on it, but they are just guesses, crest sexing doesnt work as they crest size and shape can also vary depending on quality of the bird. Now if you know they are all perfect specimens from show quality stock then you'll have about a 75% average be correct. I've tried it over the years, and you get some right, but not all.
It's a good guess IF you know the quality is there, otherwise, well, it's just a guess

The one you mentioned, in the second pic, is my first chick and that's goo that's making it's feathers do that... I haven't done anything yet with chick... the other two, i must have asked the question in time, b/c i upped my humidity a little and that must have taken care of it better than i thought.... but i will check them over really well this afternoon, when i get home from work....
I feel better on the sexing thing after you said that, and i wasn't going to do anything with them until I'm 100% sure anyway....but i just wanted to try to see if i got it right, that's all. A little bit of fun after all of the stress.

thanks for your in put though, i really appreciate it.

I don't think my other 3 eggs are going to make it, i haven't heard a thing.

splash hen spend time with my standard frizzle male and my bantam male she kinda a lil in between large bantam small standard

well have hatching eggs avaible soon

That is a very good point about knowing your own lines and quality. I once was looking at feed store chicks sexing them for fun when, to my amazement, I spotted a wc black female- perfect white round crest- indistinguishable from my own chicks. I bought her and grew her out. She did have an OK crest, but a high tail and too much white in wing tips. I petted her out. I have never (yet) been wrong if I think a chick is male, but some pretty males- especially frizzles- will fool me.

ah okay, that explains it then. yep humidity or lack of it was your problem then, just keep those vent plugs sealed unless you start having too much humdity and all should be fine then

my little tolblunt has figured out that if it stays still and poses then it gets a treat
