"Mist" looks like a mister to me...not a she. Cockerels will have the longer pointed feathers in their crests...pullets will have shorter..more rounded ends on their crest feathers.

Yep, agreed on "Mister" - Now I don't agree because of the comment on the crest feathers, but instead because of the color patterning.

The shape of the crest feathers is what I noticed first and realized that the bird was cockerel and not a pullet. I noticed the very same thing when I raised my Polish, Houdans, and Crevecoeurs......and I do notice this very same thing to some degree in my Pyncheons as well. If this bird was white and pattern was not an issue...one could still tell that it was a cockerel.

Thanks for the cute picture!! I appreciate the post.

I can't wait to show you more pics! Looks like we will be in Oregon another day. My cousin (who we are staying with) was in a bad horse accident and broke her back yesterday. My dad is watching the farm and we can't wait to get home. As soon as we do I will post more pics.

Oh no! Thanks for pointing that out! Yikes!! Being new to the chicken thing, is there anything I need to be doing now? They are all about 2 months old. thanks for the input!!

eat him! Naw I would keep him as long as he's tolerable. I do live in a suburban neighborhood though so I understand not being able to have a noisy bird when the neighbors all sleep within 30 yards of the coop.

sadies chicks..... Your cockerel looks to be healthy...whatever you are doing is working.....keep the same routine....clean food/water....proper housing....worming.....and a few minor tips should produce some very nice birds. Congrats. on your progress!! Rusty Hart (Irish Acres)
