What do you guys mean by "mixed" and "mutt" polish?? Is that in reference to his color or are you implying that he is an actual Polish mix?? I can assure you, there is no way anyone snuck into the Polish pen one night. They are in a secure A-frame and they haven't been with any other birds since they were young chicks ( and at that time they were with my MF bantam cochins, I would think that would be an obvious cross ). We purchased our breeders as eggs from a breeder on BYC and as far as I understand, that person is well respected for having nice Polish. I don't understand it either. Its a very unusual color regardless and that little chick creates a good deal of chatter whenever anyone comes over to buy chicks. We have had more people make offers on that crazy little peeper then we have any of our other birds put together. It really figures. I spend a bunch of money building up a beautiful flock of Mille Fleur cochins and what grabs everyones attention when they come to the farm? My husband's funky little Polish chick. Yep, it figures.
I think it was a mixed color reference...my guess would be silver laced x partridge only because I have a similar color mix(of 2 different pure colors) but that is just my guess

Thank you so much for your post. After reading it, I have to say, it really made sense. We have been getting a lot of Partridge chicks out of that group too for some strange reason. For having such normal looking parents, we have been getting every color chick under the sun.
I assume that means that the person we got our eggs from had different colored Polish running together.
I have noticed a lot of people do run their colors together. Definitely a question to ask when purchasing eggs. Just like the Ameraucana....they may be "pure" ameraucana but really are considered a "mix" because they aren't recognized colors.
We actually did ask before purchasing the eggs. The person told us that they had shifted some birds around and that a few of her different colors had been running together but that it had been over three weeks so we should be fine. Guess not. Its all good though. We love our Polish and are very pleased with what they have been producing for us. Regardless of what color they turn out, they all display good conformation and crests.
