Polish?

I got this Polish hen about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Well is it normal for them to be shy? and she only seems to lay every other day. is that normal?

Yeah, if she wasn't socialized young than she will be shy and probably stay shy unless you work hard to get her used to your company. Polish chickens will build bonds young. Sadly, she can't see much with that crest in the way and unlike other chicken breeds, might find it more difficult to get used to people if she can't see them well.

In other words, she's spooked. And yes, Polish were bred to look pretty, not lay eggs. Every other day is still good, though. Some people get around 2 a week.

I do not show my polish, so I cut away some of the feathers around her eyes so that she can see a bit better. She is now more active and not as shy.

Awwww! LOVE your polish! We have 1 too. Her name is Cotton Top.....and our polish roo is Q-Tip!!!!! My polish are sooooo much more laid back & friendly compaired to my other chickens. My kids walked around the yard holding them!
