My ladies have recently started laying. They all lay light brown/tan colored eggs. Twice now, I have gotten a brown egg with white spots on it. On one of them the spots were a bit large and on the other they were so tiny it almost looks like the egg is covered in lace. When I first saw it, the one with the larger spots, I thought the chicken had laid the egg in a spot that had DE and I tried to wash it off. It looked like it came clean. But then once it dried, the spots were there again. Same thing happend to the other one.

I'm not really concerned, I just think it's kind of odd. Anyone else seen this?

Could be calcium deposits. I have had several Delaware eggs like that when the new girls first started to lay. It's likely nothing to worry about and should work itself out.

I know exactly what you're seeing on the eggs. I've had the same thing...it's almost like a white film covering the eggs on occasion. I don't know what that is. And when I wash the eggs and they're still wet, it looks gone, and then it's right back as soon as the egg dries.

I don't think it's very pretty, but I don't know what the white stuff is or what causes it. I hope somebody comes along and knows the answer to this!

GOOD QUESTION! Glad you asked it!

Funny I should run across this thread. I just started getting eggs like this from some of my newbies. I didn't know who was laying them, although I had suspected it was my barred rocks. Same thing as described- lacy white pattern. Interesting. It looks pretty.

My BO lays eggs with white spots all around the round end and my BA lays eggs with darker brown speckles on the whole egg. I think they're neat and add a more vareity to the egg basket. They've both done it since they were pullets. I've had other birds start out with the rough calcium bumps on their eggs, but those only lasted for a little while until they got their systems fine tuned.
