I feel understood! That's literally how I eat every bowl of soup. Unless it's chili. (But is chili even a soup? That's a completely different debate... )

Oh my...well, in my opinion, it isn't without milk, but with milk...that's another discussion...

after careful consideration, I ended up deciding it wasnt because soups - even cold soups - have to be cooked & cereal isnt
but that led to an offshoot question: is oatmeal a soup?

Well...oatmeal tends to be thicker than the average soup, so maybe it's a stew? Oh dear, I fear I'll be running around in circles trying to figure that one out!
