Mine used to be great till recently. I started out with a 4-wk old hen, she was in the same coop with my Silkies. Once I built another coop and moved the silkies out, then a friend bought me the male, he was about 6 months and she was 4. He was wild at first but in time he became very mellow and chill, the hen on the other hand became the most skittish, unfriendly and unwelcoming hen ever. The moment I got close to the coop she was all over the place. Then when she start laying eggs, I had one of my Silkie girls hatch two. Well they were tame and sweet, till the male reached 4 months and began trying to mate with the hen and attaching the chicks that were once his siblings. So up for a adoption he went, then the first male, attacked a new born pheasant chick and just loved the taste. After that he killed two others then as my baby doves began to fly, they fell on the ground, well Mr. Rico decided it was a gift from up above and began pecking at it, poor baby dove just sat there and the parents could only watch as their baby was being killed...that is till I came in and stopped it, well the next day he did the same thing to the other baby dove, so I knew then the bad habit was set in. Off to a new home he went...as soon as the three new chicks become independent then my older hen will be joining the other two.
