There's been a lot of discussion on the forums about roo behavior and whether to use an aggressive, "I'm top rooster and I'll show you who's boss" method or a gentler approach of building a relationship where he knows what's acceptable and what isn't. Each method seems to have varying and unclear reports of how well each method has worked over the long run. We have a debate going on in our household as to how to handle our 3 month old roos now and in the future. My husband is for aggression and I am for finding a non-combative approach. (Gee, sounds like our approaches to raising children!) He's a guy, so maybe he knows something I don't. I've only raised girls (thank heaven!) and I haven't a clue how to raise boys. My approach has worked wonders with the girls (human, dogs, cats, fish, chickens) but the animals and sometimes the humans run away from him. But, these are all females. So, I've decided to start this poll to get some kind of data to help our thinking. I'd like to know which method(s) you've used and whether you had a greater than 50% (positive result) or less than 50% (negative result) in terms of roo behavior control. I've made multiple choice available for those who have tried both approaches.

If you'd like to add a comment, please restrict it to a fairly dry explanation of what methods you have used and what reaction you received from your roo in response. This information can help all of us devise approaches that we are comfortable with. Please don't rant about other people's methods or decisions and please don't crow about your exalted success like a know it all. (Sorry, but it's really NOT helpful to the rest of us and just starts unproductive arguments and hard feelings.) As far as whether or not to cull them, that's a personal decision we all have to work out in our own way, so please don't comment one way or the other on that issue.

I've tried to set this poll up logically to get useful information, but it's my first poll on here. If someone sees a glaring error in my methodology please let me know.

I didn't use anything......I just raised them and they are friendly so far.....sometimes they peck and that hurts, but they aren't trying to be mean or anything. They are super friendly/tame they'll jump on my leg and come when I call (sometimes). I guess used a gentle approach.
