Poly-foam egg shipping question

Hi Greg,

I have used those in the past and felt they weren't really worth the money. With Araucana eggs they are a little small for the holes and can move around a bit. I went back to the double wrapping with bubble wrap. I am kicking around usuing pipe insulation foam though. You cut it slightly longer than the egg. Slit it on one side, wrap it around the egg and tape shut. Wad up a paper towel and stuff in both ends then tape the ends so the paper towel cannot get out. Then set the eggs in the box with the pointy end down and voila. Same as the shipping foam only better and cheaper. Right now I am using cotton batting along with the bubble wrap and am getting good results but like you say, time consuming.

Lanae,

Thanks, I like the pipe wrap idea. Might just give it a try. I have a lot of it just laying around.

Lanae,
I have shipped two orders of eggs using the pipe insulation foam. Waiting to hear from the buyers to see how it worked out. Ended up using 2" ID pipe insulation foam. The eggs fit snug inside the wrapping. Stuffed the opened ends with small pieces of bubble wrap, then taped over the ends. Was a lot easier than wrapping each egg with bubble wrap. Will let you know how it worked out.

I also am using these and it seems to work well. You can stand them up, Little egg pods is what I call them.

I am thinking about purchasing some Poly-foam chicken egg shipping blocks to start shiping my Araucana eggs in. I currently ship them in doubled wrappings of 3/8 bubble wrap around each egg. This is very time consumming to wrap each egg.

I am wondering if anyone on here has ever used Poly-foam or had eggs shipped to them using Poly-foam block? What is the opinions of these type of egg shippers? Which have you had the best hatch rates with Bubble wrap or Ploy-foam?

Where did you buy your poly foam from? Looking to get some myself. How did your eggs do shipped in the poly foam?

I have some of those thick foam laying around, which I accidentally discovered in the garage....... you know, once you have a chicken mind you tend to see items and think to yourself if it will work with chicken keeping or not, soo weird. If I didn't have that chicken mind I would have not even noticed it! Anyway, nice to have if I ever decide to ship eggs....... anyone interested in some very cute and lovable Shamo Special chicks? Two Fiddy!! :p
