Pond maintenance sucks!

Anyone with a dug pond agree? I do realize that a lot of what I'm dealing with now is mistakes I made during construction. I really wish I hadn't done cement. I also wish I'd built a sturdier fence around the biofilter section. With the wind the fence blew over and my ducks got in and ate every single plant. /sigh The cement settled what with it being it's first year of existance and so now I'm out cleaning it throuroughly so I can fill the cracks. What a pain! Another pain is how dry it's been in my state. We have had more tumble weeds this year than any other. Our pond is 30x14x3 and it was completely full. I had to get in and clean that out which was just gross. Then there's just the general layer of filth. So much work.

So, have to clean, fill cracks, fix fence, buy new plants, buy new fish and plant some grass around the bio filter area to keep the dirt from corroding into it. So much work!

I can't completely relate, but I have contemplated lots of pond designs and I can't figure out what would be best. There seems to be maintenance issues with all designs unless you go for a really expensive, fancy one! I'm sticking with the kiddie pool for now!! Good luck!

You think you have it bad, I live in a townhome without a backyard. My duck is a house-duck and I've had to get VERY creative about making places for it to swim, hehe!
