Pool sand: usable for dirt bathing?

My husband is changing out the pool filter and we have a few buckets of pool (filter) sand. We are wondering if pool (filter) sand is acceptable for them to bathe (like in a tire, etc.)

Yes.

Is it just sand or also diatomaceous earth?
The chlorine would likely gas off when dried in the sun.
But very fine sand, and especially pool grade DE, might both be a respiratory concern.

Just the dirt on the ground is usually sufficient.

Agreed on the chlorine. I think it's very fine sand, but not sure about the DE. It came with the house, so not sure about the contents of the sand. That's something I had not thought about - we will likely forgo using it.

..and they could have used chloramine, which does not dissipate like chlorine does.
....or something else.

There is usually hair and oil in the media too and if they didn't keep their pool properly chlorinated, alot of other nasties.
