In the Brooder
My husband is changing out the pool filter and we have a few buckets of pool (filter) sand. We are wondering if pool (filter) sand is acceptable for them to bathe (like in a tire, etc.)

Has this sand been in contact with anything, like chlorine or other pool chemicals?
Is it just sand or also diatomaceous earth? My husband is changing out the pool filter and we have a few buckets of pool (filter) sand. We are wondering if pool (filter) sand is acceptable for them to bathe (like in a tire, etc.)
Just the dirt on the ground is usually sufficient. What about play sand . can't get the ideal sand in the small qty I need.
Agreed on the chlorine. I think it's very fine sand, but not sure about the DE. It came with the house, so not sure about the contents of the sand. That's something I had not thought about - we will likely forgo using it.Is it just sand or also diatomaceous earth?
The chlorine would likely gas off when dried in the sun.
But very fine sand, and especially pool grade DE, might both be a respiratory concern.
Good Call.we will likely forgo using it.
