Pool/well pump question

We built a small pool for our four ducks, it's about 8ft x 9ft, 20in deep at most (though sides are sloped), so I guess 500-600 gallons.

It has a bottom drain to empty it out, I do that about once a week. We have a well so it's just out of the ground to fill it. It takes about 90 minutes to fill.

A couple of times, the pump cut off, and I had to "let it rest" and then it worked again. A well guy said that 90 minutes is too long to run the pump, and to give it a break throughout. I've been doing that and haven't had the problem since.

But I'm still wondering about the pump. Anyone have experience or expertise on whether 90 minutes is too long to run a well pump?

My wife was a manager of a well pump company, her response to the ? is it depends on the volume of water the well produces. Anytime you use large volume of water to run the hose half open. Running the hose wide open may draw the water level to low where you can actually loose the well/ water, drilling a new well is like 60$ a foot to drill.

Thanks @lagrange chicks interesting the well guy told me not to run it half open because "it would confuse the bladder tank."

25 years in the well pump industry my wife has never heard the phrase confuse the bladder tank. She says it could be do to you have a small pressure tank and running half open would cycle the pump on/off more. Running it wide open would keep the pump from cycling more but more chance of drawing the water level down. What she would tell someone to do is if it takes 90 minutes to fill it to run the hose for 45 minutes with a hour or so break between.
