My family and I are getting a pool put in over the summer and I was wondering if it would be safe for my ducks to swim in it? Will the chlorine hurt them? Is it safe for us? I am just throwing this option out there I know it sounds crazy. Thanks!

I was thinking of only letting them in when I am there so they don't have a lot lf access to it. Would they still dirty the water with very limited time in it?

I think the chlorine wouldn't be good for them and aside from that, they are super messy in water. When mine get in water the first thing they do is poop.

You don't want to give them full access to the pool all the time, because it probably wouldn't be good for them to be soaking in and drinking chlorine. But I've taken my duck in the pool with me for a few hours here and there, and there haven't been any problems. She loves it!

I was only planning on letting them in, like you said, an hour or two here and there. I am glad it works out!

The chlorine can't be good for them. I wouldn't risk it affecting their natural feathers or oils. If your going to though I would rinse the duck off in regular water after the swim!

That's a good idea. She can take a shower with me afterwards.

Does your duck know not to drink the chlorine water? If a duck did drink it would they get sick?

She really doesn't drink it and she mainly keeps her head above the water. Sometimes she dives down or snorts to clean out her nares, but for the most part, she just floats around. She doesn't intentionally drink it as she swims.
