Neither, really. I dump the contents of my plastic boot tray into the composter. Sometimes a cecal poo will stick, and for that I use a gardening trowel reserved for the purpose. Then I hose off the tray and return it to the coop.
Yeah, don't just drop them on the floor. Although I use a scraping board, I scrape them into a container and they go to a composter. The floor is still quite clean even after a year. But I change it all out every late spring anyway, whether it needs it or not. Still no smell after a year.
I use sweet pdz in mine its like litter and scoop it out every morning,I tried different things but in the winter mine freezes to to board so the pdz works great for me plus it soaks up the wetness and the smell.
i have plastic place mats on poop board, purchased on clearance for 2 bucks for 6, that i can pick up and easily scrap poop into bucket. i wash them with hose when needed and hang on fence to dry- takes a minute. i need to keep them clean b/c one hen insists on laying her egg on poop board- what a goofball.
