poop boards?

There are some threads about building roosts with poop catch trays. I will try to find them. I have a wire pit in one of my coops under the roosts. I think the birds do most of their pooping when they're on their roosts. My coop with the poop pit definately stays cleaner than the coop without. When I build my new coop, it will definately have poop catch trays under the roosts. I saw some at TSC for rabbit cages. I think they would work fine in a chicken coop. There are pictures on my BYC Page of my coops.

if you search on 'droppings boards' you may get more returns.

you can see a pic of my general design in the sussex photo on my personal page (link at left under my name). The board is about 14" wide, 16" would be better. (The nestboxes have been pushed further under the droppings board since the photo was taken, btw)

Good luck, have fun, lots of ways to do it,

Pat

I want something I dont have to clean out every day... too much to do on a daily basis already... I like the idea of the shallow tubs with shavings and sweet pdz in them.

My coop is 8 ft wide.... 1 roost all the way across or 2 parallel and if so how far apart much they be ?

I use two parallel roosts, 12 inches apart, about two and a half to three feet off the floor. i like the parallel roost as the chickens dont have a nightly fight to see who gets the top rung.

I have the drop boards under the roosts, about eight inches as I recall, and use a layer of pine shavings to facilitate easy cleaning. I only clean them once a week and it seems to work fine. The boards sit on top of the nest boxes and slide out for easy cleaning.
