Can you tell me what material works best to put in the box under the roost? What is used in the photo?

I use about 1/4" Sweet PDZ and scoop every morning with a metal cat litter scoop into an old cat litter bucket that gets dumped into my compost bin about every 3 days.

i would 100 percent suggest pine shavings! they’ve worked great for us and don’t smell too bad!!!

make sure they are almost chip sized though and not dusty!

I don't have chickens in the coop yet but I like this method -- I was at TSC yesterday but was not able to find PDZ - I was near the wood/shaving bedding. Was I looking in the wrong spot? Where do you get it?

I get 40# bags at Agway or Home Central (ordered online on their website then picked up at the store). TSC carries it too but in 25# bags.

But you can't scoop shavings.
The GRANULATED PDZ absorbs odors and it's easy to scoop.
