Poop on babies rear ends

If the poop is noticeable, then no, not normal. Hold the chick, butt first under a stream of tepid water. Not too hot, not too cold. It takes awhile for the water to soften the sticky, hard poop. I don't pull it off, I crumble it off with my fingers as it softens. Dab the rear dry and grease it a bit with vasoline or olive oil to assist in preventing future sticking.

Normally, if the temps are right in the brooder, not too hot, and the chicks are drinking, this is just shipping stress and goes away. Stay with it, though. Can't have their vents plug up, or this is life threatening.

I also hold the chicks rear under warm water. Dawn dish soap really helps clean the poop. I blow dry after and if the rear end has a lot of fluff, I carefully snip it off with a scissors.

I will put probios in wet mash and that seems to really help healing up the problem. Good luck!

I use the wash cloth or old rag system. I take a warm, very wet rag & hold it on their rears til the poop softens & can be gently picked loose. Recheck a couple times a day until it clears up.
