so i am literally 24 hours into having my first chicks and I have noticed some strange mucusy, reddish poops. I have no idea what I'm doing or dealing with here. They are on the chick starter medicated food and water. They seem to be healthy as far as I know. Thanks so Much.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet! As long as their eating, drinking, and staying between 95 and 100 degrees heat! Keep a close eye on them and make sure they don't get pasty butt!

Can someone tell me what pasty butt is?

Pasty butt is when liquid poops sticks to their down! And as it clumps and plugs their butthole, it can keep them from pooping!!

Pasty butt is when poop gets stuck on the vent opening. It can harden preventing them from being able to poop. Shipping stress, dehydration from not drinking enough, and too high of a brooder temperatures can be a cause. Check their vents daily and keep any dropping cleaned off with soap and warm water.

Looks like a normal poop.... shedding of the intestinal wall like Eggcessive said .... When it is Cocci it looks like blood .... red dark blood splotches. Once you see that there is no mistaking it for the picture you just posted. You should find the normal / bad poop picture page as there are many different normal chicken poops for you to get acquainted with ..... if you didn't know better some of them would send you running for a cure when they are totally normal .....

Yes. That was a pic before I moved them to a bigger tub that's about 3 ft long and 2 feet wide. I found 2 of them on the rim of the bin earlier
