Hi all!
I am new here so forgive me if this post is in the wrong thread...
I have had two chickens now for about two months. Both are about 6-7 months old. (Lavender Orpington and a cream leg bar) I am very new to this and have some concerns and questions about worms/parasites poop etc. my chickens are free range in the yard. Both appear to be very healthy looking but only one is laying. The Orpington has not yet and am concerned about the consistency of the droppings. Hoping to get some advice and direction. Input on what I am looking at here.
this is what I saw this morning. (pics below)
So my first question is DE. Can I put it in the water? How much and how often? I do have some dewormer coming Friday.
not sure if I need to do anything else? Thanks in advance and appreciate any and all input!
Seth

DE as in Diatomaceous Earth? It’s completely useless for all things poultry and can do more harm than good. Use a proper dewormer a couple times a year.

Do not use wormer unless you are seeing worms or a fecal float indicate that you need to worm. If they are not wormy, do not treat. I have never treated for worms.

If they are active, bright eyed, eating they are probably healthy. Let them be. Unless they have an incredible worm load, and they would not look like those beautiful chickens, it would not affect egg laying.

I think they will both be laying soon. You just need to be patient.

this is what I saw this morning.
First 2 pics are cecal poops.
3rd looks like cecal with urates.
4th looks a bit loose, but could be from drinking excessive water if it's hot and/or too many fruit treats.

Good visual references for all kinds of poops,
just don't jump to any terrible conclusions too quickly:

thank youfor the input!
I agree that DE is worthless for killing / preventing worms... but I am 100% a believer in letting them dust bathe in it. If you buy the food grade DE, respiratory issues aren’t a concern. My chickens have never had lice or mites and we live on 2 acres with lots of wild birds everywhere.
