My one and only hatch chick keeps getting poop stuck to it's shoot. I keep cleaning it off. I read here somewhere that I need to clean. Will this ever stop? Will this cause a problem in the future? John

Keep cleaning it up and get a little yogurt into the chick. Digestive enzymes likely haven't kicked in with the chick fully and the yogurt will help with that. The chick will grow out of it.

Wanted to add that pastey butt is common in chicks and can "sometimes" be a result of a brooder being to cool or chick feed that is to old.

I've never raised a baby chick, but I remember a couple of things I have read about pasty butt.

1.) Giving chicks sugar water can cause it.
2.) Dabbing olive oil around the "poop shoot" can help keep the poop from sticking to their little bottoms.

If I'm wrong on this, someone please correct me!
