Poop stick on feathers no feathers on heads.

My 2 salmon faverolles have no feathers on their heads for months. We thought they did a mini molt due to some crazy weather but now the feathers will not grow back. Their heads are completely bare. On top of this they have poop stuck all over their vent feathers, it’s gross and caked on. We have cleaned this and trimmed the feathers many times. Looking for any advice!

Sounds like feather picking. How are they being kept? Other chickens? How big of a set up? My guess is they are also sleeping somewhere like in a nest box or on the floor. That's where the poop would cake on them overnight.

Faverolle can be submissive birds. Mine used to hide from the flock and would get their muffs plucked out yearly.

Thanks. I’m thinking those sounds like the right things happening. They are the only ones with this issue. We have plenty of space for all the birds and the rest are barred rocks, Wyandotte, and speckled Sussex, 9 total. They free range and have a closed in run and coop/next box set up large enough for 12 birds. We see them on the roost bars at night but I wonder if they get kicked off once we close the door. Thank for the help. For now I’ll keep cleaning and trimming their butt feathers and cleaning the coop. They seem totally fine otherwise.
