Poop-Thru Roost

I follow several You Tube homesteaders. One, justin Rhodes - on the western side of NC, designed what he calls a "Chicksaw". It is basically a movable chicken tractor box designed to be moved like a rickshaw transports people.

The bottom is made of wire so that the poop falls through. He situates the Chicksaws inside hot poultry netting to protect from predators. He now has several different sizes w/ plans, material lists & you tube video demos.

Does anyone here use a wire or hardware cloth panel under their roosting bars, so the poop falls through to the ground? I guess this is kind of like the opposite of a poop board.

I live in a warm climate, so cold isn’t a concern. I was going to build a platform floor across the whole coop, but I‘m thinking that the poop-thru option would be a lot cleaner and allow for more ventilation. I’ve done this in quail cages before, and it worked well.

I’d appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences with floors like this. Extra points for any pictures!
Hi, I chose this method after seeing Hannah on Gardening Australia. If you use a deep litter method though, be aware that the litter below really heats up as all that extra poo processes, and it can make the coop very hot even with good ventilation at the top. I’ve given it up and reintroduced a solid poo board that I empty into a compost bin, as the rising heat from the litter was just too hot for my climate.

Thanks for the tip! I’m definitely leaning toward the poop board approach.
