We have our first ever flock, 10 br hens and 3 bo roosters, 12 weeks old. We let them free range around our 3 acres every day. They always stay near the coop and right around the house. The problem is, they love the porch and poop on it a lot. It is about 16' x 48' and concrete.

Besides fencing around the porch or fencing them in, are there any techniques for keeping them off the porch? Maybe an owl decoy above the porch?

Be diligent to not ever feed them treats near that porch. They're like elephants & will never forget the time they got something tasty there & will tend to hover near there hoping for a reoccurance.

I don't think a plastic owl will deter them. Just keep a broom or hose handy, and yard shoes or boots by the door for yourself & your family.

Welcome to the delightful pleasures of chicken keeping!

Even watch pet food outdoors....
I have an outside cat so now I have to wait til the girls go in for the evening to feed him as they seem to think his food is for them and they help themselves.
