Pooping In Water

The experts will recommend chicken nipple waterers because that is the only way to prevent chicks messing up their water. Once the chicks are old enough to be hopping around they can climb onto an inch or two if you use something to raise up the water vessel. Shavings are not too bad except for soaking up the water, but poop in the water should be cleaned out.
I’ll clean out the water now. Wish I could get some of those nipples! Thanks so much for responding!

Also don't be surprised if they decide to sit on top of the waterer once they are able to fly a little way, and then start pooping into the water from above. It helps to put something on top as well.

It takes some ingenuity to hang those waterers. I did so by buying or making a metal ring to fit around the mouth of the bottle, then making a macrame sling to attach to the wire ring, which then attaches to a chain with S hook. This makes it super easy to raise the waterer an inch at a time so it's always the right height.

It's important to keep the water out of the bedding and the poo out of the water. Managing both helps prevent coccidiosis.

Ok i’ll clean it now. I was thinking of putting a piece of plywood under it to at least eliminate shavings and some droppings. I’ll try to find a way to hang it. Thanks for the reply!

I had this problem constantly while mine were in the brooder. Now that they are in the coop, and use a big waterer, it isn't as bad, but I still haven't attached hooks to hang it yet, so I am having to clean it a few times a day.

You don't have to hang it. Do what works for you. The important thing is that you find a solution for YOUR set up.
Make sure you aren't giving them vitamins while treating with Corid.
;)
When I refilled the water I didn’t put any probiotics in it just corid. Is it ok to give a sicker chick a little sugar water to boost there energy while treating with corid?

Not sure if you have any of these lying around but I have two toddlers so I've got a million Lincoln Logs and they make a brilliant base for my water...as the chicks get bigger I just add another level in my log cabin!
Thanks for the response! We sadly do not have Lincoln logs lying around we do have legos though maybe that could work? Right now however I have some plywood scraps that are working pretty well.
