Poopsicles!

For the past week almost it hasn't gotten much above freezing, even during the day and the chicken poop has been building up in their litter trays. That's because it's frozen to the bottom, right through the Zeolite! It is as hard as concrete and just as impossible to break out. I guess I'm going to have to wait until it thaws before I'm going to be able to remove it. Oh Well, at least frozen it's not going to be stinking up the coop.

Wouldn't that saturate the zeolite (it is absorbent)? To say nothing of what it would do to the feces.

I'd personally vote to wait, it won't smell and water makes the droppings smell worse. If it's really bad, you might have to do some scrapping

I did a cleaning yesterday and had to pop poo off the floorboards. They came off easier than I thought.

Your probably gonna have to wait until it thaws some. I use sweet PDZ in my poop board, the poop is frozen but it is on top of the PDZ, so I scoop away.

I believe sweet pdz is zeolite - just a brand name.

I have 68 trips around the sun for decades I have been raising chickens
For years I have been lining my nest boxes with the folded empty nylon mesh feed bags (would also work in any area poop collects.
When a bag gets soiled pop out the soiled and pop in another. Poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off when left out in the sun to bake and dry. It is the best method I have stumbled upon in my 68 trips around the sun.

Oh! Remove the excess string from the open end of the bag it can get tangled in your birds legs and wings.
