I’m a new chick owner. I have 6. All seem happy and healthy. But now 5 days later, almost everyone has poopy butt. Not a lot of poop, just a little stuck on the butt fuzz. Is it too hot? They sleep together around the edge of the heat. The brooder is 95 F. They are in the house. I did feed them a little grass and sand. They really liked the sand. I am moving them into a larger brooder today. What do you think.. is it the treats or the heat? Or something else.

The vent is the orifice from which chickens pass bodily waste and from which hens pass eggs. The belly button is located just beneath the vent. Just as in human babies, after birth/hatch there is a small amount of tissue that must dry up and fall off the belly button. This dried tissue should not be confused with droppings and should never be pulled off as doing so could disembowel the chick. The causes of this could be stress and being cold, most commonly seen in chicks shipped through the mail, over-heating, less common causes include viral or bacterial infections and improper diet, all of which can result in diarrhea

CLean the poop off them immediately
sounds like they all have pasty butt.
droppings stick to the down surrounding their vent. Poop builds up to form a blockage that can be fatal to the chicken unless removed.
I had one chick that I clean a couple of times. the others is just a drop, not coving the vent. but tonight most look clean.

Thanks. I'll be sure not to pull anything off. Only wash if needed. Last night we had house guest and the TV was blasting. the chick were chirping. The house is quite again and they are cleaner.

Are you feeding medicated or non medicated feed? If non I fed mine minced garlic and acv in ther wateronce or twice a weeklong build up immune system. also you can offer dried oatmeal to help with pasty butt
they are eating medicated. I'll try acv and dryes oatmeal. I tried an electrlight in the water (turns it yellow) but I dont think they liked it. now they drink plain water. tonight thier butts are clean.
