Poopy butt not laying eggs

I think Cappucino has a proplapsed/ stuck egg. she is approximately 10 months old and has stopped laying now for a month. Now her comb is dry and faded and she has a very, very poopy butt. A neighbor suggested time to make chicken soup but I read in the chicken bible that maybe I can release the egg. suggestions? thanks. Baroda

You can do a search on this forum for "egg bound" and there will be many suggestions. Most often the suggestion is to give her a nice warm tummy bath - just let her sit in pretty warm water for about 20 minutes. You'll want to remove as much of the poop as you can. Then you can lube up her vent with some olive oil. Might helps - but if she's been in trouble for a month, she may not make it. Can you actually feel the hard lump (the egg)? Is her belly swollen/red? Is her vent pushed out or pulsing??
