poopy butt

@threehorsesif you are still giving advice, I had a single hen that had a poopy but. It was a big hard clump. I cleaned her up and a week later it was back. Tonight I noticed two more of my reds with poopy buts. I feed a layer pellet from MFA, give oyster shell, and yogurt bi weekly. I am perinoid about keeping there food dry and fresh. They don't have grit at the moment, but part of the run is crushed limestone and they free range several times a week. I have poop boards under the roost(though one cross board between the two roost poles near the ladder is on my list to remove because they poop a pile there that must be at their butts by my weekly cleaning). Pine shavings in a 8.5x10 new coop with a 200+ square foot run at least sixty feet of which is covered.
The uncovered part is a lake right now and has been several times in the last month. We have had huge rains the smallest of which was a couple of weeks ago with four inches in a day. I have not seen the numbers yet for the last thirty hours, but we got four plus this afternoon alone. So conditions are wet. Everyone is eating well, and drinking the acv water :(-
Worming? Gleet?
400
. The other hen looked goopier, but this was taken in the dry Thursday and the hens tonight are after tons of rain in the 30's

I'm so excited about all of your advice!! I could have read dozens of posts and maybe found a small portion of what you put in one single post. Thank you so much!!

Question: i have three chicks that I've merged with my girls too early. They are doing well but I was lucky. I have six more that are too young still. Quarantine should be for 5 months you say. Can they share the same pasture but not at the same time? I don't have a separate chicken run. Should I construct a simple one just for these chicks? They came from two separate orders. Do I need two separate ones?

Thank you THANK YOU for taking the time to give such wonderful tips to us pet chicken people. I have been reading about a poopy butt problem in my B O and need to do several of your suggestions now. I read through all of your tips (printed out 2 pages of them) and am grateful. We are only 2 years into having chickens after retirement and having had dozens of other animals in our lifetimes from horses/cows to pet robins and humming birds... I have done a ton of reading about our poultry and keep learning more and more each day. We love our chicks and especially love the idea of holding and examining them as we sometimes watch the Animal Chanel with them on our lap (and a towel under) don't laugh. Looking forward to reading more of your comments and wish you were my neighbor. I am in Port Angeles Wa----rain rain rain

Hey, near bellingham here!! We always spray cowboy magic onto their little bums, seems to work well. You mentioned you had horses, so I'm sure you've heard of it.

Thank you very much....will check into that. Moved from Montana where the weather was a lot different so in the last three years, we have had to adjust many of our old time practices. Good and bad things about all places but always something to learn. Appreciate your response.

PS....after reading about the product, it is more of a grooming product which sounds like the spray I used to use before showing my dark hair pedigree cats---which is wonderful. I want some for myself!! We had a working ranch and did not do much grooming as our horses were used for pack or herding cattle (or neighbor children rides). No wonder I had not heard of this. I think the orpingtons we have, have way too much fluff on their butt but I am not into hair cuts in the area all the time so this might work well for them. Thankis again.
