POOR FEATHERING

i am seeking help in figuring out what is going on with my girls (3) tail feathers. pre-medication (CORID) for
coccidiosis, they had beautiful tail feathers. 5 days into treatment feathers began to appear odd. post
treatment coccidiosis resolved but feathers have not returned to normal ~ no other changes in food, etc.
contacted a vet (2 months out for appt) and the producer of CORID - they give free advice via their in-
house vet who said feather issue unrelated to medication. searched on-line to no avail. best i can find
is it may be an amino-acid or Vit D deficiency caused by the medication. i am open to supplementing
but could also use some advice on best quality brands. i did buy one but the first ingredient was propylene
glycol (which is anti-freeze), so no go there!!! i will try an upload a photo. ty in advance.View attachment 3020841
Corid had/has nothing to do with your feather issue.

scratch & peck is a complete and balanced feed
It is not a complete and balanced feed if the bird doesn't eat all of the grains in it.
Most of the time the birds will pick and choose and only eat certain grains out of it.
What also makes what you're feeding your birds unbalanced is all of the extra added treats.

I'm saying the same thing in a different way just to make sure you understand what we are all trying to say here.

Was it Nutridrench? That’s a very good brand and there’s different types of that ingredient, it’s not all antifreeze. It’s even in some human foods. I would try it.
Too many extras!!!!!

Ferment your feed, they are picking out what they want. It may be 'complete' but loose feed they usually are not eating the powder that contains the essential vitamins/added protein, etc. etc.

Corid isn't going to cause damage to the feathers.
It looks cosmetic to me.

Cut out the extras and focus on protein and nutrition.
i do ferment. i do not give all the foods i stated every day, only as treats. i also add any extra loose powder to the yoghurt when i give that.

yes - nutridrench -contains propylene glycol WHICH IS NOT FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION. check MSDS or google scholar or EWG (environmental working group) and you will see what they say.

i'm thinking the corid altered their gut microbiome because that is the only variable that changed. i'm going on the assumption that its a nutritional issue.

i hear what (when i locate the response) all are trying to say. i give S&P daily. treats are treats, which i have used all along. the change happened in all three birds during covid treatment at the same time, which was the only variable that changed. its an anti-parasitic which can and does change ones microbiome - human or animal.

i was asked to list all the food they eat - that does not mean that's what they eat daily

No, it's not an anti-parasitic.
'A coccidiostat is an antiprotozoal agent.'

I have looked it up and everything I’ve seen says it’s an extremely common additive in foods and other things even for humans and fairly safe so maybe you might be thinking of ethylene glycol or something else? That’s much more common now for antifreeze. There are also different types though like how there’s different types of salts or how pure oxygen is deadly but we breathe it because we’ve adapted.. I have personally used NutriDrench many times on many animals and they’ve never once had an issue  but of course you don’t have to use it if you don’t feel comfortable using it but I’m pretty sure if it killed people or animals or was straight antifreeze then it wouldn’t be allowed.. If it is a nutritional issue the NutriDrench will help but you could try Rooster Booster or something else instead. Not sure the ingredients on those.
