Poor little broody hen freaking out

I'm planning on doing just that as soon as this nasty, dreary, drizzly weather clears up. I hate winter.

Whew, I am glad the eggs were empty. that would upset me too! I am going to try candling again today, But I know it will be the same, no light gets thru those two remaining eggs at all. solid darkness. How can they be duds if they are full of chick? but she seems content to sit, so I will keep holding them to my ear every day and listening for the elusive 'pip' I have heard so much about....

Sheesh, waiting for day old fuzzies was less torment than this!!

Sorry your girls were all duds, better luck next time!

Well, ok, now I am confused....(nothing new) I am reading all these posts about incubators, and how people stop turning eggs at a certain point, and candling and seeing movement.

My little hen is still sitting on these 2 eggs. Both candle as solid dark blobs. I am not seeing any light pass thru. She is moving them about, and I lift them twice a day to listen for some sound or 'pip' which I have heard mentioned.... Nothing.

She has had these eggs since the beginning of the month, and some of the others from the nest have been accidentally collected, and had half formed chicks in them. So I know the potential is there.

Are these eggs full of dead chicks cause I picked them up at the wrong stage in my ignorance?

What is going on?!

Nope, same as the last post yesterday, two dark, still, quiet eggs. I am afraid I must have moved them at a fragile moment? I dont know anymore, I guess they will just sit there under her until she gives up. its been this whole month.

I wouldnt have thought they would be so sensitive, but I have been reading all these posts about not touching them past 18 days, and well, between me, and the mom, they are getting shuffled daily!

I dont get it.

Glad your lady is back to her old self....

Aaack! She hatched one! Oh now what do I do? One little Japanese hen, and one little tiny chick in a communal coop with 21 other BIGGER birds...... Are they gonna kill it?

Help!!!

Ok, we moved momma and the one chick indoors, and tonight I switched out her two dud eggs with three silkie eggs that we got from a local breeder who are supposed to hatch on monday. (keeping fingers crossed!)

Momma and chick are doing great, and so far she doesnt seem to want to move off the eggs, so I hope she will stay put now that she feels movement and whatnot!

Heres hoping!

Oh, that's good news! Congrats on the chick and best wishes for those eggs. I'll bet mama will be glad to be able to be off eggs for a while!!
