I had 3 hens and one died the day before yesterday. Lily was 2 years old and had bright yellow diarrea just leaking from her rear and seemed slow - she seemed to just stand still for ages. She was still eating and drinking but it seemed that the other 2 hens eating reminded her what to do! I noticed that she was much smaller and she had been the biggest of my 3 hens. I gave her probiotic plain yogurt with grated apple and she loved it but on the day she died she bent down to peck some of this and just toppled over, flapped about a bit, a few squawks and she died. I'm glad it was quick but it was such a shock! Now one of the other hens, Fergie, has the same symptoms but her rear is messy with thick white poop with some green. This time I've isolated her because the 3rd hen seems very healthy so far. I don't seem to be able to tempt her with anything and she isn't drinking. She is in a guinea pig run with little hutch so she can peck the grass which she still does a bit but she mainly stands or sits doing nothing. If I let her out she might eat if she sees the other hen eating? Or is that not a wise move? Also I think I should wash her backside but I don't want to cause her any more stress. I've only ever used Net tex worming pellets and I've been told they aren't strong enough so I've ordered Ivermectin drops and they should come today. Does anyone know what this is and could I have prevented this happening? Any help really appreciated.
