poorly chicken

Needing help i have 4 chickens and yesterday i have had to take one to the vets she was very poorly wit her breathing and they have kept her in over night and not sure when she will be coming home they have told when she comes home she will need to stay on her own as she will still be weak, what they best way to get her back with the other chickens and how long should it take?

So sorry your very first post on BYC has to be regarding your sick hen. Welcome! You're lucky to have a vet who knows something about chickens. Most of us aren't that lucky, and we end up having to be our own vet.

Hoping she gets well, and when she's ready to rejoin the flock, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If she was the highest in the pecking order, it will be stressful since she wouldn't be head hen on returning. She might have to fight whoever moved up into her rank while she was gone.

If she is at the bottom of the pecking order, she won't have any problem to speak of upon returning. If she is in the middle ranks, there may be some "adjustment" with whichever hen now occupies her rank.

The main thing is getting her well. The re-entry into Chicken World will pretty much take care of itself.

Welcome and I'm sorry to hear about your chick. Once she is back from the vet just give her time to get well, it would be a great time for you to bond with her as she will most likely will be lonely without the other chicks for company. I wish you and your chick the best of luck.

Hi thank you for that, I think she is at the bottom as she is the smallest out of them all
