Hi All

Collected some ex-batts two weeks ago. One of them didn't look right from the start - though it might be the stress of an adoption day but unfortunately not.

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) 1.5yrs, very light, very thin
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Lethargic, lots of sleeping, rattled breathing, puffed up feathers, intermittent leaking vent with white matter and clearish liquid, not laying at all, pooping
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Two weeks
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No
6) What happened, if anything that you know. Unsure of history prior to collecting her. All birds smelt ghastly on collection so I assume unhygienic conditions
of, that may have caused the situation.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. A little, not enough in my view.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Caged within pen to stop bullying, have dewormed entire flock, oregano oil in water, enhanced feed (turmeric, chilli, ginger, coconut oil mixed with pellets). Warm bath and wash lash night followed by blow dry. Syringed an electrolyte mix with some aspirin (15ml) this morning which she took (as she was too weak to resist), seems a little stronger this afternoon and is resisting. Sunshine therapy as I'm out of ideas
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Home treatment
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bed
ding in use. Dog cage. Aubiose + pine shavings mix

Should also mention she's been making loud sounds earlier in the week and previous that were loud and possibly a cough

What exactly are you feeding? As in, layer feed, all-flock, etc.? Recommend you stop the "enhancing," it's not doing any good. Give her something with high protein, i.e. all-flock, chick starter, etc., 18 - 20% protein. It won't have added calcium, or not much, so provide oyster shell in a separate vessel, if she's laying she will take what she needs. Also provide crushed granite grit in another vessel, for digestion. If she won't eat, add water to her feed to make a mash or gruel, you can also add a little plain yogurt.

If she still won't eat, make some sugar water, she could be in shock. Put 1 tsp sugar, a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda in a cup of warm water, stir to dissolve. Put some in a small cup and hold it up to her beak to drink. Dip her beak in so she can taste it. Keep offering till she refuses.

@Eggcessive does this chicken look likes it's laying internally?

Thanks @BigBlueHen53

Feed is layers pallets with the coconut oil/spice mix mixed in. I use the coconut oil + flbenvet to mix onto pellets when I dewormed her (+ the flock) when they arrived (finished a week ago)

Have given mash + yoghurt (and both together). She's not taking it though. I don't have granite grit in her dog crate so will add that in tomorrow.

ELectrolytes given were a mix of sugar and bicarb and salt - that's what I syringed into her this morning. Tried dipped the beak but she wasn't reacting hence the syringe.

She has slept in the dog crate and by herself for the past few night but tonight is cooler and she's not got much meat or feathers for insulation so I've put her into the main coop this evening for warmth.
