Hi everyone

My first post and my first attempt at hatching quail.
I have had 5 in the brooder whonhatched Saturday and Sunday.
2 were shrinkwrapped because of humidity issues and at the point when I could tell they couldn't get out and were fading (minimal movement) I decided to assist (The membrane had turned orange and they had pipped over 2 days earlier. )

Didn't think either would make it but they did. Decided to keep those 2 in the incubator for a bit longer as they both had issues with their feet too which I managed to correct with medical tape.

Put them in the brooder today and one seems to have taken a nose dive.
Very sleepy and little resistance to being handled, stopped eating despite eating in the incubator earlier.

Now in two minds about putting him back in incubator- I understand some egg yolk and honey water might help? Is this the case?

Any advice/help much appreciated.

The whole process of a baby chick hatching like that can be very stressful for them. A yolk mix can help along with wet food as well. They also make chick electrolytes that you can mix into water which should help give a boost. Is there any other symptoms you have noticed such as a lump, swelling, or liquid/bloody poop?

Unfortunately, 5 minutes after posting I lost the chick.
There were no other symptoms I could see.
I knew it was going to be very hard to keep him going- it was over 3 days from pip to getting him out of the shell so I just dont think he had much left in him (I didnt expect him to make the first night, but when he did and seemed to pick up a little I guess I got my hopes up).

The other chick, although a lot smaller than the first 5, seems ok. He is eating and drinking and moving around just like the other 5 - so fingers crossed he doesnt take a nose dive too....
