Hi Guys, i need some advise, i have a silkie cockerell that is 4 months old, for a while now he has had an ocassional sneeze , no runny nose or anything, but today ive noticed its worse, he is sneezing more and sounds rattly in the chest, hes eating fine, full of beans but i must his his cocka doodle doo is hysterical, havin never had a young silkie before maybe its normal but he sounds like a flat claxton horn??
he is in with my ducks as doesnt want to go in with my other hens , he has layers pellets, corn and a poultry tonic in his water, ive wormed them, though used a wormer that goes in the feed for 7 days so not sure how effective that is.
any advise appreciated

Sounds like he has a respiratory illness. A very good antibiotic for respiratory illness is tylan50 and it can be found at your feed store. Many poultry owners including myself choose tylan50 for respiratory symptoms. Dose is as follows small birds like silkies will be 1/4 cc given once daily into the breast muscle. for 5 days straistraight. Do not worry that the bottle says for cattle and swine its a excellent choice for poultry with respiratory symptoms. I always use it in my own flock of silkies very successfully when they have respiratory illness. Being an injectable it gets into the blood stream quickly and really packs a punch against the symptoms. Also I like it better than water soluble antibotics because the dose is more consistent and not contingent up on amount drank like water soluble antibiotics are. I really hope this helps. If it were my bird I'd start treatment with tylan50 as soon as possible. Best wishes

i wondered if that was what was wrong, thankyou, it seems i can but tylan 200?? not 50 and need a prescription for either so its probably a costly vet visit!
