Pop bottle waterer for hens?

I saw these "universal pop bottle" waterers at Meyer - they look like a good idea for keeping water in our small run - water will stay cleaner and easy to refill from outside the run. I'm just wondering if their 1" width is big enough for a full sized hen? Anybody used these? Think they would work?

I have 7 chickens and would probably set up 2 or 3 of them in their run. Inside the henhouse they have a big waterer which they can access any time.

Yes a full sized bird can drink from them.

Chickens should have a bit of "elbow room" at waterers and feeders. More at feeders.
That said, just about anything they can get their beaks into and which keeps the water clean will do.

I think the opening is big enough, but the 12-16 oz bottle will not last long. Isn't the waterer in their run good enough?

I'd be concerned about the chemicals leaching out of the soda bottle. As a short term solution, maybe but I wouldn't want to run it that way long term.

I could never get my birds to use them for some reason. I bought 4 of them and they just would not drink from them.

This shows using a glass coke bottle like the old kind.
I thought I had seen something like this to use with a two liter plastic bottle.
These might work good in small areas for younger chickens.

I bought a bunny waterer for a 2 lt bottle. I know silkiechicken had her chicks drinking from one so I am going to try it.
