Do we need a ramp up to our pop door on either side? It's about two feet up from the ground, and is 12" wide and 15" tall. We plan to do a vertical slider. I was thinking I'd just put a perch on the outside and was hoping the 2x4 below the lip on the inside would be good enough.

I vote "yes". You've already done a lot of nice work- a simple ramp, won't take much...

Mine hens seem to enjoy "walking the plank" and all being on the ramp at the same time when it is bed time. I think too it is easier than an abrupt jump for the heaver breeds. Plus if someone is jumping out at the same time, it might freak them out. Ramps are easy to construct - I like to see them using it also. A perch on the inside is not a bad idea, though.

Okay thanks all. A ramp it is. Would we need one on both sides? We plan to do deep litter, so it won't be quite so high on the inside. I worry on the inside a ramp might get in the way of the people door.
