Pop door size question

Is a 10wx12h large enough for Brahma/orp/fav to peacefully get out of?

I'm looking at the new chickenguard and the door is 10x12. The older chickenguard door is 12wx16h.

Thoughts?

I'd think so. My pop door is 12" x 12" and I've had a Miniature White turkey tom use it without issues, plenty of room. I'd worry about height more than width. A miniature white tom should be larger than a Brahma rooster. A hatchery Brahma will not likely get as big as a Brahma bred for show either. Do you have a rooster or are they all hens?

I've had full sized fowl (not Brahma but Black Australorp or Orpington) hens use an opening on the nest that was 8" wide and 6" high. They are a lot more capable of getting through smaller spaces than some people give them credit.

But if someone with actual experience with Brahmas doesn't respond, I'd contact the manufacturer and ask them.

Possibly dumb question - What is the need for a small door, just because of predators? weatherization? or is there another reason?

There is no reason for "needing" a small one, but most companies that sell automatic doors sell small ones since it is cheaper to make and operate. I know ADOR sells a bigger door specifically for turkeys. Costs more of course.

Yes, they will be fine with that size door.

The big benefit of a small door to me is that it keeps out more weather. That's wind as well as rain or snow. I don't know any real predators it will keep out except maybe bear. I'm not sure of that.

One thing I'd look for is that the door cannot slam shut when a chicken is in the way. Whatever door you use, big or small, needs to be locked open or closed. Don't leave it so the wind can slam it open or shut.
