I went to the button quails' cage today and saw Chickapee doing something weird in the food bowl for a bit. She walked away and left behind was a strange, brownish thing. I was going to the cage to check for eggs, but I was expecting that there wouldn't be any. Anyways, at first I thought it was a cotton ball. That was a stupid idea, so I assumed it was feces. Nope, that would be too big for feces and too small for an egg. I touched it and noticed it was hard. I picked it up- lo and behold (I've always wanted to type that

) was a fully-formed button quail egg. I quickly set up the incubator and put it inside. How often do button quails lay and is it year round?

14-16 hours of artificial light. Diet consists of mealworms and bird mash (high-protein).

My female layed an egg for like 3 weeks straight, then she stopped for like 2 months ( cause she was molting ) then she started back up again. I would think if she just started laying then she would lay for a few weeks.

Does she have a mate in w/ her? If not I doubt her eggs are fertile, and I doubt it would be fertile anyway since it's her first egg, like quailladyoffortmyers has already said.
