when my boyfriend said he was going to use pop up tent poles to make a roaming pen I was intrigued, so He did just that.
In under 2 hours we had a roaming pen with chickens in it.. happy as clams in the ocean..
After four of my chicken's (almost five thank god for my cat who saved one of them) got taken out by the fox in our Woods we decided we better put up a roaming pen ..
so the chickenS

20191103_132418.jpg stayed in the coop for a couple days and waited patiently until we could figure out what we were going to do.. I bought one roll of 50 ft of chicken wire and that's all I purchased .. my bf came up with the idea to use pop-up tent poles to erect the roaming pen (pictures are enclosed).. that all speaks for itself..
The only technical part being was we sewed the chicken wire together by overlapping it and running the pop tent poles through the chicken wire in a sewing type fashion which makes it rugged and stands up good..

AAAAND it popped right up as easy as that... one section at a time..
even if the fox decides to try to dig into that roaming pen he will find his toenails very hurt... only access to their coupe (hatch door closed at night when they perch) is thru roaming Pen out in the wide open (this fox stays to the Bush were he has great cover) that it's how he got 4 of my chickens.. broad daylight.. he can't get in at night cuz coupe door closed tight
Still would love to be able to hybrid eagles with chickens then have cheagles then see whos the bait lol
(my boy friends clever idea)

It's rough, it's unorthodox but it's safe and my chickens have a killer set up in that camper to go along with their "too cool for school" pop up roaming pen

That's very clever with the poles as both a 'sewing' mechanism and to 'hoop' it.
Kudos there!
But that chicken wire is not predator proof...
...and if you live where it snows, all bets are off as to whether it will remain upright after a good snowfall.

Yeah

yeah clean off for sure .. this only temp until new coupe is ordered till like the 5th but ugh yup I live where it snows...ALLOT and I have to have a framed roaming pen luckily where it is going there's lots tall tall evergreens way high up free of any low branches ..wide open area gonna set it in middle outside where I sit most the day this fox won't approach the open (stays in heavy brush cover) cuz of dog but the weasels do come out knock on wood catskilled two in last two was but fox he scraps with but that's it..lots of escape routes in coupe plus shes for knox at night but I'll feel allot better when I get the new one shipped ... wish us luck
