Popcorn tin heater.

HI. Read in here somewhere about useing a popcorn tin for heater.Just wondering,could one use a heat emitter instead of a light bulb.Also would the heat build up inside the tin be too much for the emitter.Or a light bulb. This heater is for the coop.as opposed to heating water.
 
I use a light bulb mounted on a board and covered with a large terra cotta pot to keep my little chicks warm. I only use it for the first two or three weeks of their life though because it never really gets real cold here.

I have it set up on an appliance timer just in case I am not at home in time to turn it on for the night. Very rarely do I have to use it during the day light hours.
