Hi there! I bought three porcelain hens a while back and now I have one left... Desperate to get some hens and/or a rooster. Does anyone know how to breed out a porcelain? I've heard breeding a buff with a grey/lavender. Anyone with some in Southern California?

No:( i guess no one wants to give up their porcelain silkies

Hey Tearooster!
I think you are right about getting breeding buff with grey to get porcelain silkies! I breed a dark buff roaster to a grey partidge hen and I got a few porcelain silkies, I also got pure white and partidges! So try to find a nice buff, or grey roaster. You should be fine!

Here is a picture of one of the porcelain chicks.

I think I might just buy a dozen porcelain hatching eggs for $50

I would need a buff rooster and I think I have a lavender hen. She might be grey though....

I will look on Craigslist for a rooster. Good luck with the babies!

Do yourself a favor and get eggs or chicks from someone who's been working on porcelain for a while, it'll save you a ton of hatching and culling.
If you start from scratch, you'd need a buff and self blue (lavender). That is the only way to make porcelain (self blue cream). The first generation would be split to lav (lav is recessive, it requires two copies to show). Breed the splits back to the lav, and you'll start seeing chicks showing the lavender. Starting from scratch would put you into a project that would take you years to get what you want. There are already folks working on these, who've made lots of progress and have gorgeous birds. I believe I saw porcelain eggs in the auction section of the forum when I last looked.
I adored my self blue creams, selling them before we moved was a difficult decision, but I had others I just couldn't part with and moving 5 birds 500+ miles was hard enough :/

Best of luck to you!
